The Pug Dog: Playful And Affectionate

Having a Pug dog can be a lot of fun. Pugs are considered a toy dog breed, with a medium-small body. They weigh between thirteen and twenty pounds, and stand from twelve to fourteen inches tall, generally never getting bigger than that. Pugs have a wrinkly face and large, dark eyes that truly adds to their attractiveness and cuddliness. When they are excited, their eyes light up and have a lot of expression in them.

Though they have often been used as companion dogs because of their wonderful personalities, they have also been used as coach dogs and guard dogs. The name of Pug is said to have been derived from the Old English word Pugg, which was an affectionate word for a playful little devil or monkey. This dog is aptly named, if that is where it came from, as a Pug has a terrific personality. It has grown in popularity over the years. It was originally breed in China, moving on to Japan and other countries, and eventually to England. Many of the monarchs in Europe have enjoyed this dog because of its personality, and it is a favorite among royalty and other discriminating people throughout the world.

Pugs prefer the company of humans, though they get along well with other dogs and other pets. They really love to be with their owner, and will usually be right at their owner’s feet or on their owner’s lap. These loyal dogs get concerned and even a bit jealous or anxious if they aren’t given enough of their owner’s attention. They also do not respond well to being harshly disciplined, as they are sensitive to their owner’s tone of voice. Often they will do things to get their owner’s attention, or to get them to laugh aloud. They are considered to be little clowns.

Particularly during the first few years, Pugs have a tremendous amount of energy. They are often more difficult to train though, as they don’t enjoy the training sessions because they get bored with them. They tend to be very rambunctious, but they are also very playful with a great sense of humor.

Having so much energy it would make sense for them to enjoy walks. They do, but can’t get much outdoor activity, as they have short noses and tend to have trouble breathing with excessive exercise. They are also very sensitive to hot and cold temperatures.
A Pug dog can be a wonderful family pet. It will be loyal and playful, and love the attention that children are willing to give a smaller, energetic dog. It is very eager to please, and it will often entertain whoever will give it attention. They love to go for walks with their humans.

While it isn’t the easiest to take to training it has many other terrific qualities, like its playfulness and clownish behavior. They are terrific companion dogs, which get along well with all human and animal pets, making it a natural addition to a family.

If you are considering getting a Pug for your family, you should check with local breeders who sell them healthy and with good breeding. If you buy your Pug as a puppy, it will be cute and little, with the adorable wrinkles already in its face. Bought so young, you will be its human, and it will be your loyal companion for a lifetime.

Historical Importance Of The Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever, one of the most popular intelligent dogs around the world, is known for its service in a wide variety of areas including field trials, obedience, hunting and offering companionship and guidance to blind people. During early days of the 1800's, hunting was considered both a practical measure for obtaining food as well as an interesting domain of sports in England and Scotland. The Golden Retriever was developed from the need to have a medium-sized dog that has the flexibility to move through wild fowling, both upland gaming zone and waterfowl.

In 19th century, Lord Tweedmouth at Guisachan estate, Scotland, kept the records of the development of the Golden Retriever for the first time. These records were published for the first time by Tweedmouth's great nephew in the year 1952. It was during the mid of 19th century when Lord Tweedmouth purchased his the Golden Retriever Nous. In his estate, he put the effort to breed the dogs with desired characteristics.

During that time, Tweed Water Spaniel dogs were used for the purpose of hunting and they were recognized for their true intelligence, boldness and vitality. While developing the breed of the Golden Retriever, Tweed Water Spaniel dogs played a significant role. Breeding between Nous and Belle, a female Tweed Water Spaniel dog, gave birth the first fours desired golden puppies. However in time, dogs like Bloodhound, Irish setter along with Tweed Water Spaniel were integrated in order to breed the Golden Retrievers of today.

At the end of 19th century in England, the popularity of the Golden Retriever increased significantly. In the year 1908, the first exhibition of Golden Retrieve was held in the Crystal Palace show, England. A separate status had been established with the formation of the Golden Retriever Club in the year 1913 in England. In 1920, these dogs put their footsteps in North America for the first time in the line of dog-breeding history.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) offered the recognition and listed them in the year 1925. During the time between 1930s and 1940s, the popularity of this breed became significantly increased. The Golden Retriever was the dog that achieved the crown of obedience, The Obedience Champ Title, from the AKC, while competing with many other varieties of dogs in the year 1977. In early days, the capability of the Golden Retriever dogs was limited to their hunting instinct, but later on down the line they show their utmost talent in the domain of show ring as well.

One interesting fact is that the dark shade used to be the predominant public preference that went over the light shade coat in earlier times, which is quite uncommon in today's scenario. Throughout the years, the popularity of this breed has increased and the Golden Retriever has been known as one of the most adorable and intelligent dogs among all other breeds around the world.

Bulldog Information Concerning Its Molossian Ancestor

Bulldog information is incomplete without a retelling of its ties to the ancient world. The Bulldog’s sturdy build was inherited from its ferocious ancestor, the Molossian of Greece. Kept and bred by the Molossi tribes' people, the huge dog was valued for its great strength and size. Even though the dog did not have speed or a sensitive sense of smell, the dog had the courage to go after prey that would not back down.

Huge dogs, such as the Molossian, were used for hunting large game in prehistoric Europe, Africa and Asia. Originally from Epirus, Greece, the Bulldog’s ancestor, the Molossian, was kept for hunting purposes and eventually became a guard dog and fighting dog. A strong based on mutual need developed between the dog and its human family. The dog became an indispensable member of the household and earned a living through the work that it performed for its human masters.

Historical Bulldog information includes the Greek myth about the Demonesian bronze dog that Hephaestus forged and gave a soul. Hephaestus was the son of Aphrodite, the goddess of Love. The dog was named Laeleps and was presented to Zeus. Zeus gave the dog to others and before the Laeleps turned to stone, he fathered descendants.

The Bulldog’s ancestor, the Molossian dog, is said to be one of Laeleps’ descendants and the Molossi tribes of Greece bred this dog. The dog was welcomed as a trusted ally in the hunt and its ferocity and courage ensured that the dog was relied upon and eventually indispensable to the Molossian household and community.

According to Bulldog information, Phoenician traders began to use the dog for bartering purposes and in this way the Molossian dogs traveled the seas and oceans of the prehistoric times. It was in about 800 BC that the Molossian found itself on British shores.
Historical Bulldog information tells of British tribes people, including the Celts, breeding the dog for their own purposes. The Celtic tribes bred the dog so that it could accompany them on their wild boar and wild cattle hunts. The Celtic and British tribes trained the dog to participate in war and the dogs had skill at bringing a horseman down. The Romans called these dogs by the name Pugnace Britannicii or Canis Pugnax. A later name used for the dog was the Broad Mouthed Dogs of Briton.

The Pugnace would grab a horse by the nose and by clinging on the horse would buck its rider off in an attempt to dislodge the dog. This canine maneuver was a surprise to the Romans when they first invaded the British homelands. The Romans prized the dog’s ferocious nature and put it in the arena as a combatant. Since this time, the dog’s ferocity has been bred out so that what remains is a good natured and an even comical companion.

About the Author: A particular lover of working and companion breeds, Bobby Callahan has extensive experience raising, breeding and caring for many types of dogs, including the Bulldog. The Bulldog is an even tempered dog that makes an excellent and loyal companion. Throughout the ages, the Bulldog and its ancestors have maintained a strong relationship with its human family. Remember Your Puppy Will Grow Up Someday

Chocolate brown eyes, a warm nose and eager licking are classic images of an adorable puppy. From children to burly men, a puppy can level the playing field fast. There's something soothing about a little puppy who just wants to snuggle in your arms.

What dog owner hasn't thought, "I wish he would stay a puppy forever?" In less than a year, that tiny fur ball could weigh more than your teenage son and eat more than he does, too!

If you bring home your puppy at a very young age, you have the opportunity to train him to function within your environment. You also get to enjoy those hilarious moments when a puppy makes discoveries like chasing his own tail or catching a ball.

These times are so memorable. If you believe the old adage, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks," then you definitely want to start with a puppy and raise him the way you want him to mature.

As dogs age, they take on more of the natural characteristics of their breed. Even ferocious guard dogs were once cuddly puppies with looks that could melt hearts. Once grown, that same dog can stare a hole through an intruder instantly be prepared to rip his hearts out to protect his territory (and his owners).

Show dogs may be gentler, but they require intense, repetitive training. If you want the show dog to perform on command, you can't confuse him with occasional babying behaviors. Dogs who have roles to play take those roles seriously.

To keep a sense of the puppy pet for a lifetime, you can choose a small lap dog. Some breeds are content with frequently being held and petted. They have the patience to sit with idle owners for hours in front of the TV.

Actually, they have more patience with inactivity as adult dogs than they have as puppies. The nature of being a puppy is like that of being a toddler - it's a time for exploring, running and making mistakes.

Puppies are so excited about every new thing - whether it's a toy or a butterfly floating in the air - that they quickly forget the command you gave. They wander around, even outside the protective boundaries of your yard.

Life with a puppy can be both wonderful and exhausting. A puppy desperately wants your love and approval, so you have to correct it without being harsh. You can't compare one puppy to another, even if they are the same breed.

Each puppy has its own personality and abilities, so he'll progress with training at his pace, not the same pace as his siblings or the dog you owned previously. Dogs, like humans, can be charming babies and irritating adults - or just the opposite. So be prepared to love the dog you have for a lifetime.

About the Author: Before your puppy grows into a full-size dog, you need to be working on dog obedience training. This way, the good habits he learns will stay with him as he grows up. Learn more at DogObedienceTraining123.com.

Labrador Training Tips- Should You Punish Your Labrador Retrievers?

Labrador Retrievers are popular dogs, being able to perform roles such as assistance dogs. They would surely enjoy activities to stimulate their minds and body, being intelligent and energetic dogs they are. But despite their large size and exceptional abilities in working and detection, Labrador Retrievers are also ideal and loyal companions.

This breed responds well to praise and positive attention but we cannot deny the fact that they sometimes commit mistakes. However, you should always bear in mind that a dog will never do anything on purpose, and besides he is not even aware whether what he is doing is right or wrong. Additionally, a dog isn't aware of the consequences of his actions. It is for you as dog owner to understand your dog's behavior and how to deal with it.

Mistakes committed should be corrected at once to prevent your pet from doing it again. You should make him understand that what he did is wrong and you are not very happy with what he did. There are many methods to train a dog as well as approaches to correct his mistakes. These vary depending on the owner or trainer, some still believe that training a dog should be done in humane way. But there are some who would rather verbally or physically punish their dogs. Verbal punishment includes shouting or using an angry tone to your dog while kicking, hitting, rubbing his nose in the carpet and other forced actions fall under physical punishment.

If you come home and hit your dog after you found out that he urinated in the living room floor, you will not make him understand why he is being hit. He may not even realize that it is his punishment for doing something unacceptable which took place hours ago. The result of this however is not a well-trained dog but a confused and scared dog. He will associate your return with hitting or yelling and will make him scared of you returning home. Of course you do not want this to happen, don't you?

"How should I correct my dog's behavior if I am not going to punish him for the mistake he committed?" Dog owners would probably ask that question. There are training methods effective in modifying a dog's behavior without inflicting physical pain. Use praise and positive attention to correct Labrador Retrievers. Your gentle words and tone as well as your loving touch will encourage them to behave properly. You can also modify your dog's behavior through perceived punishment. If you caught your dog doing something unacceptable, you may want to create a sudden loud noise to refrain him from doing it. In time, he will realize that the loud noise occurs every time he is not behaving properly. The point here is that, this perceived punishment does not appear to come from you but somewhere. And also, he is not physically or emotionally tortured.

Just treat your dogs right and they will surely reward you with happiness and lifetime friendship.

Dental Care For Your Labrador Retrievers

It is important for Labrador Retrievers as well as other breeds to have good health. There are many ways on how to maintain their good health in general. Different types of foods claiming that they contain the important nutrients needed by your dog, vaccinations to prevent various and life-threatening diseases and regular exercise to stimulate them physically are some of the measures to maintain your dog's good health. In addition to that, keeping your dog's teeth and gums clean and healthy is also beneficial to his health. More animals are now diagnosed with severe dental problems so it is important that you should ensure good dental care for Labrador Retrievers.

Here are some of the problems that could possibly affect your dog:

Plaque
Plaque is a collection of food particles and bacteria formed along the gum line. This is normal to dogs especially those above three years of age. However, it should be removed if it is already too thick and is covering the teeth. Plaque causes bad breath, wounds in the gums and loosening of the teeth. Plaque can be removed at home using toothbrush and toothpaste while some vets may use buffalo leather for dogs to chew on. This buffalo leather contains enzymes to prevent accumulation of plaque.

Tartar
Another why reason why plaque should be removed is that, plaque, if combined with minerals in the saliva form tartar which sticks strongly to the teeth. Aside from causing bad breath, tartar can also irritate gums leading to inflammation called gingivitis. Redness of the gums adjacent to the teeth indicates gingivitis. This usually appears to dogs five years of age.

Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is the result when plaque formed into tartar is not removed. Tartar builds up under the gums, separating it from the teeth causing more bacterial growth. Periodontal disease is very painful and can lead to loose teeth, abscesses and bone loss or infection. This usually affects older animals. In addition to bad breath and missing teeth, signs of periodontal disease also include pus around the tooth, gums that bleed easily, loss of appetite, drooling and difficulty chewing.

To avoid the above stated problems, good dental care is a must not just to Labrador Retrievers but to other breed as well. Regular home cleaning is important. Clean your dog's teeth and mouth with cleaning implements specifically designed for dogs. Include oral exam in your regular vet visit and follow veterinary dental advice.

Dog Boots For Your Dog

Clothes For Dogs?

Dogs do not need to wear clothes, right? Wrong. Clothing for dogs is just as appropriate for dogs as it is for people. Many of the dog breeds that we employ as pets these days are not native to the climates that we keep them in. To make the problem more challenging, the majority of dog owners keep their dogs indoors or in their well groomed backyards the most of the time. As a direct result many dogs are unprepared for some environmental challenges and a perfect example are our city streets and sidewalks. Dog feet are not designed to walk on super hot pavement or black top, nor are they prepared to deal with the multitude of debris that you see on your average street or sidewalk.

The Reason For Dog Boots

Have you seen a dog wearing a pair of dog shoes and thought “what in the world would make anyone buy a pair of dog boots for his dog?” For sure many dog owners buy dog shoes or boots because they look nice or cute. Dog boots or dog shoes have many functional purposes as well. dog shoes not only enhance the life of a dog, but save them from many preventable ailments and injuries.

Dog Boots In The Winter

Dog boots are a very necessary accessory in both summer and winter. During the winter, demands for dog boots have been known to increase geometrically. This is because a dog’s paw can become frostbitten as a result of its prolonged exposure to the snow. Sharp ice on frozen skin or paw is a recipe for injury. The chemicals used to melt the snow or ice is especially cause for concern. Not only is your dog tracking all of these chemicals into your house, they invariably will attempt to clean these irritants off of their paws and thereby ingest these chemicals.

Dog Boots In The Summer

Not only are people buying these boots and their dogs using them during the winter, they are also finding good uses for them during the summer too when it is warmer. For instance, in case your dog is allergic to chemicals like pesticides and fertilizers which are usually applied to the grass in a park, your dog’s paw can be protected from the fertilizer or pesticide by wearing the boots for your dog. The common concern many people have as regards wearing boots during the summer and autumn months is that it can make cause a lot of heat making the dog uncomfortable. This is simply not true as most dogs do not lose heat from the feet. Furthermore, many shoes have a reflective or brightly colored exterior which both reflects the heat and reduces the amount of heat absorbed by the shoes and transferred to the dog’s paws.

Dog Boots Around The House
Dog boots are also useful in protecting surfaces that you do not really want dog claws on like wood floors. Ever see what a dog with long nails does to a laminate floor. It really is not a pretty thing. If your dog like to swim, you can use dog boots to prevent the dog from tearing or otherwise damaging the pool liner.

When settling for a pair of boots for your dog, be sure to get nothing less than the best. Make sure it is of good fit for the dog. If not, you dog will get rid of it. In this case, you can take the dog to the pet store where his shoes size can be determined. After the dog is through with wearing the shoe, clean the shoe properly and prepare it for the next time the dog will wear it.

Don't Make a Spur-of-the-Moment Decision to Own a Dog

One of life's great mistakes is taking your children into a pet store if you aren't serious about bringing home a pet. You can be sure that in a matter of minutes, your children will connect with the cutest little puppy.

You say no, then they hand the puppy to you and you're face to face with pleading brown puppy eyes and crying children. So between the children's begging and memories of the family dog from your youth, you're paying for a shopping cart full of dog stuff - plus the puppy.

There's no greater buyer's remorse than that felt after buying a dog on impulse. As the days go by, you discover that the dog's personality doesn't mix well with your family. You begin to resent taking the dog for walks or rushing home between appointments for feedings.

It's like having another child that you didn't plan. Those little puppy accidents, chewed furniture, nightly barking and other normal dog behaviors become more and more irritating. That's the point where some insensitive dog owners punish the dog to the point of abuse or neglect.

Sadly, many of the dogs in shelters are there because they were the impulse buy of a family or an adult who failed to consider what dog ownership involves. The owner chooses based on adorable puppy features without learning about the dog's full-grown size or its breed characteristics.

In a matter of months, the conflict begins. Many dogs in shelters are actually good dogs with great potential as pets if they go home with the right family. The dog's only "crime" was being chosen by people who were not prepared to include them into their family.

Some breeds of dogs are more demanding than others. They need several hours of daily interaction or fun. If you don't provide it, they find it on their own - and it usually involves chewing or barking.

Other dog breeds need daily room to run and play. These dogs may be great companions for children. Even dogs that play well with older children may not have the patience for young children or toddlers. You simply need to know what breed of dog is the best match for your home, family and available time.

Slow down as you visit dog breeders or pet stores and spend time visiting the dogs. Yes, it's hard to leave those big brown eyes and excited bark, but you want to make certain that when your dog comes home, this really becomes home for the dog, and not just another place to pass through. You may want to leave the children home when you go back to visit the dog and get more information about the dog's history, behaviors and needs.

Are You Ready for a Pet Dog?

The decision to buy or to adopt a dog is not one that should be taken lightly. It is a serious commitment and there are several factors to consider. Are you really ready to have a dog? As fun as a dog can be, it is a serious decision. You are planning to take responsibility for a living creature that is completely dependent on you. Dogs require food, shelter, health care, exercise, attention, love, time and money. If you’re not completely prepared to provide all of these things, you’re not yet ready to own a dog.

Your lifestyle should be probably one of the biggest factors to consider when planning getting a dog. All dogs require attention, but some need much more than others. If left alone, these dogs will not do so well and are more likely to destroy items in your home. The same can be said for exercise. Some dogs require much more time to run around, while others can get by with less physical activity. If you’re the type of person who is away from home more often than not, you should choose a dog that will manage well in your absence – independent breeds like Dachshunds, Mastiffs, or the Yorkshire Terrier.

Everyone loves puppies. They’re adorable. But how adorable will you think your puppy is when you find him in the middle of a mess that used to be your favorite pair of shoes. Puppies, like babies, require an enormous amount of attention and effort – from housebreaking and socializing to teaching acceptable manners. If you don’t have the time to keep a steady training schedule, perhaps you should look into getting an adult dog. However, adult dogs come with their own “baggage.” Some adult dogs have been abused or neglected. As a result, these dogs have acquired some less-than-ideal behaviors of their own.

Once you’ve got an idea of what you want, there are generally two options you can take to get your new puppy or adult dog. You can buy a dog from a reputable breeder, or you can adopt or rescue a dog from an animal shelter. Unless you’re looking for a purebred dog that you possibly plan to breed in the future, adoption from a shelter is one of the best ways to go. Adopting a pet from a shelter is not as expensive as buying a pet from a breeder.

Animals from a shelter are usually screened for health and temperament, so you can be sure that while you’re giving an animal in need a home, it’s the right animal for your home. However, if you’re looking for a specific breed, a breeder (or a specific breed rescue) is the way to go. Ask for references from your breeder, and ask about how many times of year they breed. A good breeder generally only produces one to three litters a year and will guarantee their dogs against most major health defects.

Pet stores offering puppies are not good options, as they tend to purchase their puppies from “puppy mills” – breeders that produce many litters a year with no apparent concern for the health and well being of their dogs. These puppies tend to be more likely to have strong health concerns due to neglect. When chosen for all the right reasons, the ownership of a dog can be wholly rewarding and a very satisfying experience.

Tips for Making Your Dog Feel Adored

Tips for Making Your Dog Feel Adored, Loved and Pampered. Dog clothes, special walks, unique pet toys and even a gentle grooming session can all demonstrate your love and affection for your best friend.

In the spirit of Valentine's Day and showing your love for those you care most for, why not include man's best friend? Dog's show humans unconditional love all year long. When you come home from work, when you wake up or even when you re-enter a room, they are always happy to see you. I can't remember the last time I was greeted as warmly by a person as I am daily by my dog. Canine greetings come so warmly and affectionately that it only takes a wag of the tail to make our hearts melt and feel loved. So it makes sense that we would include them in our expressions of love and affection on Valentine's Day in addition to all our two legged loved ones.

Like any relationship, winning over your dog's love and loyalty takes time, commitment and lots and lots of affection. The reward is far worth the time and effort it takes, for both you and your dog. With the popularity of new shows and books like the Dog Whisperer and How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend and many others, dogs are finally getting more of the love and respect that they deserve.

We can't really tell our pets how much we love them with cards, flowers and chocolates and if you are a fan of Cesar, you know he'd probably scold you just for thinking about it. But there are many gifts that show our pets just how much they mean to us and don't necessarily compromise the roles and boundaries needed to have a healthy relationship.

Simple things like a special bath, a new toy, or even a collection of love themed dog clothes can show your dog that your heart holds a special place for her. Even a new bandana can make your pup sit a little taller. It's not so much that your dog can understand the nature of the gift per se, but dogs can read our faces, expressions and moods. If we smile at them every time we pass him in his new cupid's tee, he's going to respond positively to the warm and welcoming vibe that you're sending to him.

In addition to giving your dog a token of love, it's important to set aside some time just for him, or make it a priority to include her in your festivities. Now this does not mean romance your dog, I'm simply suggesting spend quality time. Go for a long walk and take the time to play. Dogs love when we connect with them on there level just as much as they want to be near and connect with us on ours.

The perfect start to a love filled day would be a gentle bath, a little grooming followed by a delicious treat. While you're at it you can have her help you get excited for your romantic plans by donning her in a set of designer dog clothes fit for the holiday.

Good Trainer For Your Labrador Retrievers

Untrained and uncontrolled Labrador Retrievers can cause problems because of their boisterousness and lack of fear. Training is necessary in order for them to learn rules, ensure their safety and to control their behavior. Because of their intelligence, energy and obedience, training Labrador Retrievers is one step easier compared to training other tenacious breeds. But it is still important to consider the would-be handler or trainer of your dog. Success of the training relies partly on their hands so choose a good dog trainer for your Labrador Retrievers.

Dog trainers, whether learned through formal education or experience, will always claim that they are worthy to handle a dog. Don't just believe everything they say. It is wise to have a thorough background check up of that dog trainer. First qualification of a good trainer is an excellent reputation. Ask recommendations from your vet, humane societies, boarding kennel, groomer, other reputable trainers or friends and relatives who have used the service of this person and can testify that he is really good. Include in your inquiries his training background, experience and area of expertise. Do not forget to study his training methodology. A good trainer uses humane way in training a dog. He understands that Labrador Retrievers don't need harsh or abusive handling because of this breed's gentle nature. He also understands that with loving praise and attention, he will be able to communicate and successfully train these dogs. In addition, it helps if he is affiliated with reputable associations, organizations and training clubs. It is not mandatory however.

Observe the equipment he uses. Is he using chokes and prong collars? Observing the equipment he is using will help you identify the method of his training. Using chokes and prong collars may indicate that humane method is not his choice somehow.

Price won't guarantee you of a good trainer, as well as elaborate and impressive advertisements. They can be very deceiving. Don't think that all costly dog trainers are good trainers. Some are just after the profit they will gain from you, not after your dog's welfare. It is always important to investigate, to ask questions.

The bottom line here is that, you just can't trust anybody to handle your dog's training. Fraud or deceitful dog trainer as well as ignorant dog owner will not produce a well-trained dog. Of course you do not want this to happen, don't you?

Don't Get a Dog with a Poor Disposition

Each dog breed is known for certain basic characteristics - including temperament. As a result, you can rely on this information to help you choose a dog whose attitude and disposition match your own.

Some smaller dogs are known to be feisty and noisy, while some larger dogs are quiet and tranquil. One thing you need to know up front is that you're not going to get a dog to go contrary to his inherent instincts. So if you like the look of a certain breed, be prepared to live with the temperament of that breed once you take it home.

What kind of dog has an awful disposition? Answer? None if you're well matched to the dog. Behaviors that are irritating to one dog owner are no big deal to another. A person who's hyperactive won't mind a nippy miniature Poodle or Chihuahua that's just as hyperactive as they are. A quiet, studious person needs to have a calm, patient dog like the good natured, faithful Basset Hound.

Some dogs are considered by breeders to be difficult to train - such as the Lhasa Apso, Pekingese, Dalmatian, Irish Setter and Bull Terrier. Not all dogs are man's best friends. Some are fiercely independent and care little about their owners.

These unsociable dog breeds can include Bull Terrier, Bull Mastiff, Doberman, Irish Terrier, Wire Haired Fox Terrier and Rottweiler. The unsociable dogs can be alert, independent, aggressive and good as watchdogs, but they're sometimes not optimal for training.

In other cases, the dog breed may have potential for training but the personality of the individual dog is more reluctant. Or that dog may have had a bad experience at the pet store from unkind or unskilled caregivers.

The dog is reacting tough to mask his fear of being harmed or neglected based on old memories. If that's your dog's experience, then you have to take more time to reassure him that you're trustworthy and will never harm him as a means of punishment during training.

Withholding a dog treat when the dog walks poorly on a leash is reasonable. Taking away his dinner is cruel and only teaches the dog to resent you and defy you as the only means of expression he has toward maltreatment.

Other times, there's no apparent reason for the dog's odd behavior. Becoming a dog owner doesn't come with guarantees. Sometimes you have a dog that is difficult to engage and you must either care for that dog or see that he has a proper home.

Choosing Between a Male and Female Dog

Some dog owners claim that males are typically more aggressive and destructive, particularly in small spaces. Female dogs are said to be easier to train and more affectionate.

Depending on the dog breed, these stereotypes may be true or not. Choosing a female dog means either taking the initiative to spay, or deal with the issue of the dog being in heat. Failure to take action for doggie birth control means that you're constantly trying to find homes for cute litters of puppies.

Female dogs don't have menopause, so unlike the human female, dogs can have puppies practically all their lives. You'll spend weeks every year trying to guard your female from males who can catch the scent from blocks away. On the other hand, if you have a pure bred dog that you want to breed, then having a female dog can become a financial advantage.

Male dogs insist on marking their territory, whether it's around your house or in the yard. They do this by urinating on their "spot" so they can find it again. You can try to train a dog not to mark his territory, but you're asking him to go against his instincts.

If you have another male dog in the house, expect a battle for who rules the house, particularly if both want to be alpha dogs. Even a smaller male dog will challenge or irritate the larger male - just to prove who was in the house first.

Dogs of opposite genders tend to get along better than dogs of the same gender. While female dogs are not as vicious toward each other as male dogs, some females don't want to share their space with another dog.

Female dogs are generally easier to house train than male dogs, although that can vary by breed and by the skill of the dog trainer. Male dogs are seen as more lively and active, but certain breeds are "high strung" in both males and females.

Ask the average person shopping for a dog and you'll find many are looking for a female dog. They probably believe the notion that female dogs are less aggressive and easier to train.

However, they forget that female dogs can be highly temperamental. Breeders tend to favor male dogs as an easier pet to manage. Gender isn't the only predictor (or even a good predictor) of how a dog will behave.

Breeds that are known to be calm and tolerant, tend to be that way whether male or female. Other breeds that are feisty, nippy and difficult to handle are that way for males and females.

Since there's no scientific evidence that predicts the characteristics of males compare with females, then the decision about dog gender is essentially subjective. Chances are, your memories of a childhood pet or a friend's pet that you wish you had is what's influencing your choice now.

Maybe you recall the gentle female Collie who lovingly cared for litter after litter of puppies as the ideal dog. Or you think about the rough and tumble large male dog that could run hard, play tirelessly and keep up with the most inquisitive children. If that's what leads you to decide whether a male or female is the best dog to have, then go with your feelings. For you, that will be the right choice.

Prevent Osteoarthritis In Labrador Retrievers

Large breeds just like Labrador Retrievers are more likely to suffer problems related to bones and joint that makes movement difficult and painful. We are aware that Labrador Retrievers are active and energetic dogs but if you notice that your pet is no longer the usual active and energetic dog he used to be, then something is wrong with him. The culprit could be osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis usually affects dogs in their middle and senior years but puppies can also be affected. It is a chronic, degenerative joint disease caused by progressive inflammation and deterioration of the cartilage, bone and soft tissue of one or more joints. Canine osteoarthritis happens when the cartilage that lines the bones in a joint breaks down losing its cushion. This cartilage break down causes friction between the bones, results to stiffness, loss of mobility and various degrees of inflammation and pain.

Canine osteoarthritis is a result of unstable joints because of slack ligaments. Congenital joint disorders such as hip dysplasia, osteochondritis (OCD) and elbow dysplasia. That is why it is always important to treat these diseases at once to prevent it from developing into canine osteoarthritis. It can also be a result of trauma either from direct or indirect injury and from faulty bone and cartilage development. Obesity will also result to osteoarthritis because of the excessive weight carried by the joints. Age and metabolic diseases may as well cause this disease. Joints commonly affected are the hips, elbows, lower back, knees and wrists.

There are signs to watch out for the presence of canine osteoarthritis. These signs include stiffness, lameness, pain and lethargy. An affected dog may also exhibit decreased activity, difficulty rising and cracking sounds during joint movement. Your vet will diagnose osteoarthritis based on your dog's age, medical history and physical exam. X-rays of the joints may as well be needed to determine how severe the condition is.

There are many ways to treat this disease and measures to prevent it. Anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed however, this should only be used for short-term pain relief because of its wide range of side effects. In severe cases, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, carprofen and meloxicam are commonly used to increase joint mobility and control pain. Weight control is also important especially in obese dogs. The dog's regular exercise as well as other physical activity should be gentle to help trim weight and improve strength and mobility of the joint.

Remember, a dog with canine osteoarthritis should not be included in the breeding process to prevent the spread of this disease.

Are You Ready To Adopt A Labrador Retriever?

On one of your amazing adventures on the web, you happen to reach a site about Labrador Retriever. It contains information on how nice and gentle and intelligent these dogs are. And then you see a picture of a dog for adoption. You fell in love with this beautiful and pitiful Labrador Retriever and the next thing you know, you're hitting the 'adopt this dog' button.

But a dog's look should not be the only basis of adoption. There are still other important factors to consider before adopting a Labrador Retriever. First and foremost, ask yourself if you really want a pet. Having a four-legged as a new member of the family is not a simple matter. Your family may not be prepared for this. Talk to them and ask their opinion regarding this matter. Consider the age of your family members especially the children. Are they old enough to live with a pet? Despite this breed's good reputation with children, it is always important to take necessary precaution.

Having a pet also requires time, patience, effort as well as tolerance. It is your responsibility to feed, to groom and to take your pet for a walk. How are you going to do all these if your time is only enough for work, taking care of the children, spending time with friends or reading your favorite book? You may also want to tolerate some damage to the shoes, clothing and furniture. You must understand that the dog is still under period of adjustment and is going through separation anxiety.

Adopting a dog may not be as costly as getting a new puppy since most abandoned dogs are already vaccinated, spayed or neutered as well as housetrained by the previous owner. But you should still think of the future expenses- regular veterinary care, grooming, foods, bowls for food and water, toys and other supplies. You also have to prepare yourself for the occurrence of problems such as flea infestations and other health problems. Some of these health problems may need veterinary treatment and could cause veterinary bills to rise quickly.

Take note that, not all abandoned dogs are problematic or stray dogs. They are often turned into the shelter by previous owners for many reasons. Mostly the reasons are, they cannot afford to provide what the dog needs or they don't just have the time to do their responsibilities to their dogs. Adopting a dog means you are helping one little soul as well as helping the community by providing one vacant space in the shelter for another poor abandoned dog.

Artificial Respiration And CPR Can Save Your Labrador Retriever

You are comfortably sitting in your living room sofa watching your favorite show when all of a sudden, you remember your Labrador Retriever. You forgot to lock his crate after placing his food bowl. You go check him and unfortunately, he is not in his crate. After what seems to be eternity looking for him, you found him, lying unconsciously in the middle of the street. You do not know what exactly happened to him but you know you have to do something to save his life, but what are you going to do? He might need you to administer artificial respiration.

In times like this, it really helps if you have the idea of what you are going to do. Listen to the chest to check the heart activity. Then check the mouth for something that maybe blocking her throat and airway. Gently pull out the tongue and search for obstructions. Clear mucus if there is any but be careful not to get bitten. Gently return your dog's tongue back inside the mouth and close it.

For dogs like Labrador Retriever, seal the mouth by holding the muzzle closed while doing the artificial respiration. Place your mouth over your dog's nose and exhale even, slow breaths. Watch out for chest expansion as you blow. Continue blowing until the dog starts to breath on his own or until you're tired of blowing and somebody could replace you. Artificial respiration should be used to a victim who has a heartbeat. If he doesn't, artificial respiration may not be a big help. CPR is needed.

It is best if cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR is done by two persons- one continuing doing the artificial respiration, the other doing the chest compression. For medium to large dogs like a Labrador Retriever, lay him on his side on a flat surface. Stand or kneel with animal's back toward you. Extend arms and place hand on top of the other. Compress the chest over the widest portion of the rib cage, not over the heart. Push down on the rib cage, moving about one to three inches with each compression. If there are two people, the other is doing the breathing while the other performs the compression at a rate of two or three compressions for each breath. If alone, perform five compression for each breath.

It is amazing how these little creatures bring happiness and lifetime friendship and loyalty to their owners. It is important for dog owners to learn this process to save their dog's life and continue the friendship that could last for years.

Dog Toys and Your Dog

Keep Your Dog Happy and In Shape with Dog Toys

If you have a puppy, you’ll know that they think everything is a toy, even shoes. Whether you make or buy your dog toys, the main thing is that they need dog toys to help them stay healthy. Toys can strengthen teeth through pulling and keep them in shape when they chase after a dog toy, whether it is a Frisbee, rope toy, or what have you.

Making Your Own Dog Toys

If you do decide to make your dog toys, make sure that they don’t contain anything that could be harmful to your pet if ingested. Tie up an old sock, make sure they’re clean first, and it can become a pull toy. If your dog repeatedly attacks something of yours, you can either try to train your dog to leave it or give it to your dog. Our puppy used to repeatedly attack a pair of slippers that had a bell on them, no matter what we did, she would find it. We finally gave up and gave her the slipper. She loved it and it actually had to be sewn together a couple of times. Even though she went after the slippers, she left everything else alone after that. If your pup goes after something that you do not want her to, a great way to train your dog is to simply take the item away and give a verbal correction and then immediately replace the item with an acceptable puppy toy. After your pup starts playing with the new dog toy give a significant amount of verbal praise. It might take a few tries but most puppies will get the idea pretty quickly, especially if you are consistent.

Purchasing Dog Toys

If you decide to buy your dog toys, you’ll find that there are simple toys, such as pull toys and chew toys, and more complex ones, such as interactive dog dogs. Dog chew toys are simple, usually made of rubber and they sometimes squeak. They can come in the shape of a bone, cat or even rubber chicken. Plush dog toys are softer than rubber chew toys and also squeak when squeezed. You’ll find that your dog will usually have a few favorite toys, so buy a few in different shapes, sizes, and colors so that they have more to choose from. In general it is worth the extra few dollars to buy a better dog toy than to spend next to nothing on an inferior toy. Cheaply made toys will come apart easily and at the very least are a pain to clean up and in a worst case, potentially harmful to you dog.

Interactive Dog Toys

While simple toys help a dog physically, interactive dog toys can help a dog mentally. There are toys that allow you to hide a treat beneath it. Your dog has to move the coverings in order to find the treat. Dogs will quickly learn to move cups, blocks, dicks, and other coverings in order to get their reward. Both simple and complex dog toys will keep your dog healthy and fit both mentally and physically.

Dog Treats

Dog treats come in handy when training your dog and are also useful in keep their teeth healthy. When your dog obeys you, you’ll find that using a treat will help them remember this behavior and will be more likely to repeat it in the future. While you might use treats more often when you are first training your dog, you can slowly wean them off and instead pet them and play with them as a reward. Even if you use dog treats less during training, they are still valuable for your dog’s health. More and more dog treats are made with your dog’s health in mind. Dog treats can help keep your dog’s teeth and gums healthy. Zukes are great example. They’re natural and made with healthy ingredients and have different flavors, such as chicken or beef. Zukes also come in forms that are specially made to keep your dog’s hips strong or others that are made to keep your dog’s teeth strong and clean. If you decide to buy dog treats, make sure they’re as natural as possible and if possible, don’t contain artificial ingredients.

Although dog toys and treats may seem like luxury items, they are key to keeping your dog active and healthy. There are simple and complex versions of both available, so try a variety until your find what your dog likes best.

Dog Training Online Question #1 – How long has the site been in business? Many websites are new and their products have been untested. Your best bet is to go with established programs. How do you tell which sites are old and which are new? Use the major search engines to see how many results are out there. Newer sites will most likely have very few search results related to them.

Dog Training Online Question #2 – Has anybody used their advice successfully? It is easy to claim that your program enables a person to train a dog in 24 hours. Can you back that claim up? Most reputable companies have user forums. Checking the forum posts will help you determine if their customers are happy and successful in their dog training efforts.

Dog Training Online Question #3 – Is there a money back guarantee? If you are dealing with a reputable company they will have a reasonable money back guarantee. Window Bird Feeders

There are many stages that we go through in our lives that call for adjustments. Starting as a child we need to adjust to the different spaces that we are put in. We go from a crib to a toddler bed to a twin bed. We adjust to sharing our bedroom spaces to having a space of our own. When we go on to college we often have to adjust to once again sharing out space with others in dorm rooms or shared housing. Fro some people this is not an issue, but for others it is a difficult transition. When we marry or move in with our partner we need to adjust to them. My mother is going through one of the hardest adjustments that we need to make in life. She is adjusting to not only being alone after fifty-one years of marriage, but also moving to a much smaller space.

After my father died it became obvious that my mother could not take care of the five-bedroom farmhouse that she and dad had shared for over forty years. The house was large and old and she was not safe trying to go up and down stairs to do laundry and to get to the upstairs bedroom area. We considered remodeling the house, but we were also concerned about her living out in the country by herself with a large yard and the need for snow removal services in the winter. She agreed to move into a senior high rise building in the small town that was located close to the farm. Moving from a five-bedroom house in the country to a one-bedroom apartment in town was quite an undertaking. She needed to get rid of many belongings. My mother loved being outdoors so the biggest thing for her to get used to was opening her door and being in a hallway. We wanted to give her some reminders of being of the farm so we bought window bird feeders for her to have in the living room and bedroom. She had always fed the birds at home so this was something that she could still enjoy.

The window bird feeders were shaped like a small house. They are made of clear plastic so they are lightweight and they suction cup to the windows. The roof of the house keeps the seeds dry. At first we were concerned that the window bird feeders would not stay on the windows, but the instructions that came with them worked. We were instructed to clean the space on the window where the suction cup would be with rubbing alcohol. We then put a very thin layer of vegetable oil on the suction cup and stuck it on the window. The suction cup fit very firmly. We filled the dishes with food and within a day the birds were coming to eat. We kept the bag of food in the closet and each time someone visited we would put more in the feeders. Mom gets a great deal of enjoyment watching the birds come to her window bird feeders.

Havanese Health Problems and How to Prevent Them

So, you’re thinking about buying a Havanese puppy. You will be brining one of the most rare purebred dogs in the world into your home. There are only approximately 4,000 Havanese dogs in the United States! They have been specially bred for their short stature, sturdiness, and long soft hair. However, common Havanese health problems have come from centuries of breeding in a very small gene pool. You will want to monitor your puppy for these Havanese health problems so that you will enjoy your Havanese’s show-dog looks and socialable nature for many, many years to come.

No one likes to think about it, but sometimes our beloved pets are injured—hit by a car or bicycle. Many dog owners are unprepared for emergencies, don’t know how to find emergency care for their pet, and may not even have a regular veterinarian. Arranging emergency care for your Havanese, should it ever be needed, need not take you by surprise.
The Havanese is a longhaired breed, so you should brush and comb their fur twice a week. This will prevent matting and tangles. Most Havanese owners have their dogs professionally groomed several times a year. Be sure to keep your Havanese’s eyes and ears clean. This will help prevent infections. Common Havanese health problems include cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), dislocated kneecaps (luxating patellas), ear infections, poodle-eye, and dry skin. None of these problems is life threatening. Knee problems in the Havanese lead to bow-leggedness. Cataracts and retinal atrophy can lead to early blindness. Poodle-eye is a harmless brown staining in the corners of the eyes. Havanese breeders are making the effort to maintain databases on the health defects of their dogs and to remove dogs with eye and knee problems from their breeding lines.

Be sure that you have a regular veterinarian for your Havanese’s health care. As part of regular veterinary care, your Havanese puppy should receive vaccinations against common animal diseases and examinations for parasites such as worms and ear mites.
Many Havanese health problems are not inevitable. You, your Havanese’s best friend and protector, are the first line of defense. Watch for changes in your Havanese’s actions or appearance. Is your previously playful Havanese, now just lying around all day? Is your Havanese keeping the same bowel and bladder habits? Is your Havanese eating? A change in any of these may signal illness.

You should arrange for regular veterinary checkups for your Havanese. Have the veterinarian check for parasites such as worms and ear mites and give the animal its vaccinations. Vaccination schedules vary, but nearly all include rabies, distemper, parvo and parainfluenza. Distemper and parvo are contagious and usually fatal infections. Law in all states requires rabies vaccinations. You should seek emergency care for your Havanese if any of the following occur: a suspected broken limb, suspected poisoning, trouble breathing, massive bleeding, poisoning, or seizures. Keep your vetrinarian’s phone number on hand for any such emergency.

Primary Beagle Health Problems

People love beagles for a lot of reason. Snoopy from The Peanuts comic strip was a very famous beagle and people want to have a Snoopy in their house. But the beagle breed of dog also comes with its share of health problems. Some beagle health problems are common to many dogs while others are specific only to the beagle breed. Keep an eye on your beagle and make sure you learn the warning signs.

Beagles will eat until they get sick and then they will just keep eating. Beagles are known for eating everything in front of them and this leads to the common problem of obesity. Any dog breed can experience obesity but a beagle is very susceptible to it because they will gladly trade exercise for food and that isn’t healthy. Be diligent about your beagle’s diet and make sure they get a lot of exercise.
Beagles suffer beagle health problems like problems with their eyes. An eye condition common among beagles is a condition called distichiasis, which is a condition where the eyelashes grow into the eye and cause irritation and potentially infection. This condition can be solved with surgery and if you notice a problem with your beagle’s eyes get them to a vet right away. While this problem can be solved with surgery it is important to identify the onset of the problem as soon as possible and seek proper medical assistance right away.

A beagle is also apt to contract some form of renal atrophy where parts of the eye begin to deteriorate over time. If you notice that your beagle’s eyes are especially dry, or the other end of the spectrum and you notice that they tear up excessively, then you need to get your beagle to the vet right away.
Beagles are also victims to their own breeding as well as anything in the environment around them. The floppy ears on a beagle can cause beagle health problems as they do not allow the proper air flow to the ears causing build up. Moisture is also not allowed to escape and this can cause infection after a while. So keep an eye on your beagle’s ears and take a look under them once in a while.

For all of the things that can go wrong with beagles they also experience some things that are exclusive to beagles that are completely harmless. Beagles sometimes experience reverse sneezing, which sounds like they are gasping for air when they are not. It is not clear why this happens but it is completely harmless. For all of the other things that can harm your beagle just keep an eye on your beagle and be sure to treat any suspicious behavior or events as potentially dangerous and get your beagle to the vet immediately if you suspect any problems.

About the Author: Michelle Adams participates in animal rescue organization fund raisers on a regular basis. Beagle care is important and needs to be something the beagle owner is constantly monitoring. It is important to be aware of emergency care for your beagle options in case you should ever need them.

Why Give A Shih Tzu Hair Cut?

Grooming your Shih Tzu is extremely important and part of that grooming is a Shih Tzu hair cut. There are a lot of ways that a Shih Tzu hair cut can be given and a lot of advice that can be given about when to get them and who should give them but the most important thing is to just do what is comfortable to you. If you feel comfortable cutting your Shih Tzu’s coat then go right ahead. But if you do cut it then there are some rules you need to keep in mind that are very important.

First off you have to know a good age to start giving hair cuts and that can be anytime from around eight to ten weeks on up. Always start off easy with your Shih Tzu and get them used to hair cuts by starting out with little things at first and take your time doing it. Always mix in brushing and combing as the Shih Tzu generally likes brushing so it may relax them. Full cuts can probably start around sixteen weeks.

A Shih Tzu dog does not have a coat of fur like a regular dog. They have a coat of human like hair that makes them unique in the dog world. So when you are giving your Shih Tzu a hair cut try to keep in mind the things that cause pain and discomfort when you get a hair cut and avoid them with your Shih Tzu. Dull scissors pulling hair instead of cutting or tugging sharply on hair while it is being pulled up to be cut are painful for you and they are even worse for your dog so be careful.

Always keep the area around the eyes trimmed and maintained. You may want to have a professional do that area as the eyes can be tricky and one wrong move by you or your dog and it becomes an emergency trip to the vet. Hair in the eyes is not only a nuisance for your Shih Tzu but it can cause infection so keep it maintained.

The basics of any Shih Tzu hair cut are pretty simple. Short in the summer and long in the winter always works. Short in the summer because long hair and heat do not mix well with the Shih Tzu and when you let it grow in the winter just make sure it does not get in the dog’s way when it walks or runs. A common practice among Shih Tzu owners is to put ribbons and bows in their dog’s hair and while this is cute, the dog does not always appreciate it.

Hiring a professional to groom your Shih Tzu is not very expensive and they do a great job on your dog for you. If you would like to save that grooming money every month then give it a try but at least watch a professional at work before you try anything. After a while you may begin to appreciate the job a professional can do.

What To Look For When Raising A Chihuahua Pup

It can be a great thing to bring your new puppy home and begin to raise it but remember that the good owner is always learning and always trying to find ways to improve the quality of life for the dog and for the family. Chihuahua pups can take a little getting used to and the best way to get used to them is to spend a lot of time with them. And also do a lot of research on their behavior and how you can try to control, it or at least shape it into something you can deal with.

Chihuahuas and kids do not mix so if you have young children you are not going to want to get a Chihuahua. Chihuahuas get stressed out by loud noises, commotion, and the fast moving around that kids are prone to do. If a Chihuahua is exposed to this on a regular basis they may resort to a biting response and also they may decide to start barking and never stop. So don't get a Chihuahua if you have kids.
The Chihuahua pup looks very cute when it is protecting what it sees as it's possessions or its territory but this cute behavior can lead to serious behavioral issues when the dog gets older. So if you notice that your Chihuahua spends a lot of time growling and barking at people like it is protecting itself then you need to step in and reassure the dog that it is safe and there is no reason to be so protective.

The Chihuahua is a fragile dog that you will probably always need to keep an eye on to prevent it from hurting itself. A leap from the back of a chair to the floor can potentially break a leg and they do not adapt well to being picked up either. So make sure you keep an eye on your dog and do not let it climb and avoid picking it up as well. You may also want to watch where you sit, as they also like to curl up under blankets to sleep.
The Chihuahua has a mind of its own so when it comes to housebreaking a Chihuahua pup will give you quite a battle. You will need a lot of patience and a lot of advice, so be sure to do a lot of research on Chihuahua housebreaking before you get started. The biggest thing you will have to contend with is the fact that the Chihuahua hates the elements like rain and wind so getting them to go outside for anything can be a challenge. Exercise patience and be ready for a long fight.

There is a lot to know about such a little dog and the Chihuahua is the smallest of the toy breeds. You need to be well informed in order to properly deal with all of the issues that will come up when training your pup so be sure you do a lot of reading and if you bought your dog from a breeder then be sure to ask them a lot of questions too because you will need all the help you can get.

German Shepherd Pup: Facts To Know

Bringing a German Shepherd pup into your home is both an exciting and challenging time in anyone's life as there are many new adventures and learning processes to go through. While German Shepherd Puppies are fun loving pups, they do need proper care and guidance so they do not end up being large and mean animals. With the right combination of love, compassion and guidance, your puppy can grow into a well-behaved and tame dog that no one has to fear.

Even though many raise the German Shepherd breed to be a guard dog inside the home, you do not want him or her to be too mean, so that they will never turn on a family member causing them both emotional and physical harm. Training them right from the beginning can mean a lifetime of friendship and your dog will grow to alert you of danger to protect you, not in order to harm another person.
When raising your German Shepherd pup, it is important to seek the help of a professional trainer the moment you begin to notice problems with biting or barking. You want to make sure that any sign of aggression towards its family is stopped right away. Dogs are pack animals by nature and you must make sure that your dog sees you as the pack leader and they must know their place. If the dog feels they are the pack leader, this is generally where behavior problems such as violence come into play.

During the raising process, even though you are trying to establish yourself as the pack leader, it is important that you never strike the dog. This will only physically hurt the dog or make them end up resenting you, which can end poorly once the dog has grown into an adult. Teach it with love and respect, not violence and fear. Remember, what you put into raising your dog will be what you reap later.
If you want to make sure that you have a well-behaved and well-trained dog, it is important to make sure that proper training is done during the puppy stages to achieve this. Every German Shepherd pup should be able to sit, stay, come and heel on command. Along with potty training and other house breaking sessions, your pup must learn to listen to you.

Raising a well-behaved pup is easy as long as proper training and nutrition are given. Nutrition is something that a lot of people do not seem to always link to behavior problems. If your pup is suffering from something due to the lack of proper nutrition, then they may act out in order to tell you something is wrong. Since dogs can't speak, it is up to you to give them everything they need. By doing a few simple steps, you will help not only yourself but your pup as well.

How To Choose The Right Pomeranian Puppy

Pomeranian puppies are beautiful examples of toy dogs. Their fox-like faces, alert dark eyes, luxurious double coats of fur, and thick, furry tails are just a few of their attractive features. Pomeranians are considered toy dogs because they only reach an adult size of three to seven pounds and a height of eight to eleven inches. The American Kennel Club classifies the Pomeranian as a member of both the toy and Spitz groups. The term "toy" refers to their diminutive size. The Spitz group includes the Pomeranian and all other breeds descended from an area south of the Baltic Sea in what is today Poland and Germany. Sledding dogs from this region are ancestors of breeds such as the Chow Chow, Samoyed, German Spitz and Pomeranian.

In the 1800s, it became the fashion of British royals to breed dogs down to a more manageable size. Specific types of Spitz were bred to be smaller versions that could act as household pets. The Pomeranian, for example, is a toy version of the much larger German Spitz.
Pomeranian puppies, in general, resemble baby foxes. They have heads shaped like inverted triangles, dark noses and eyes, thick double-layered coats, and furry tails curled over the back. Pomeranians continue to be bred smaller and have developed a more doll-like face and powder-puff appearance.

The personality of the Pomeranian is as big as the dog is small. Pomeranians are excitable, vivacious, demanding, and even high maintenance. They are not appropriate for households with infants or small children. Pomeranians tend to snap at children who pull their tails or annoy them. Overall, Pomeranians are good family dogs and do well with older children, other pets and adults.

Pomeranian breeders should be knowledgeable of all the positive and negative traits of the breed. They should inform potential buyers of the medical conditions common to Pomeranians such as dental and heart problems. Pomeranians have a relatively long life span (up to 20 years) but may suffer knee dislocations and other Pomeranian-specific health problems throughout their lives. Any reputable breeder will have had the parents and puppies evaluated for pre-existing medical conditions.
So how does a buyer figure out how to choose the right Pomeranian? All Pomeranian puppies have the cuteness factor, but aside from physical appearance, there are a number of other ways to decide on a Pomeranian. First, research the breed. A buyer must make sure this breed fits his or her lifestyle before buying. Second, research the breeder. There are many illicit breeders who sell Pomeranian puppies out of what are called puppy mills. These breeders ceaselessly breed the parents without providing socialization or any semblance of a happy life. The puppies of these maltreated parents end up in pet stores or being sold on the Internet through brokers. The parents end up being destroyed. The only places to buy Pomeranian puppies are from certified, ethical breeders or rescue centers which house purebred dogs of specific breeds.

Third, know how to care for the Pomeranian. Good potential owners buy everything they need in advance to help the new member of the family feel comfortable. Fourth and finally, choosing the right Pomeranian may not be entirely up to the buyer. Reputable breeders interview and reject buyers they deem are not a good match for the Pomeranian they have chosen.

Considering Rottweiler Puppies

Once you have decided to get a Rottweiler puppy it is important that you find a Rottweiler puppy that is healthy and happy to add to your household. This can be difficult for the first time dog owner or first time Rottweiler owner. One of the most important tips to finding the right dog is to select a Rottweiler puppy that approaches you or at the very least won't shy away when you approach them. You should never select a Rottweiler puppy that is fearful or aggressive. Rather the puppy should be friendly and allow you to hold and handle them.

Next you should try to meet the parents if you can. Carefully observe the behavior of the puppy's parents. The parents should ideally be friendly, well behaved and easy to handle. There is a great chance that the puppy will adapt well with proper training if the parents are well adjusted.
When it comes to the Rottweiler puppy you want to carefully examine their back legs. Since Rottweilers are in general large dogs they can have problems with their back hips, which are costly to fix. In order to reduce the chance of having a dog that will develop these problems you should avoid a Rottweiler puppy that has hips that are grossly turned out and for the most part face forward. Also make sure the puppy's parents don't have a history of hip disorders since some of these conditions can be hereditary.

Never judge a breeder by their appearance, rather consider how the breeder treats and trains their puppies. How the breeder raises the puppies will have a lot to do with how your Rottweiler puppy will turn out later on. So always keep an open mind and just remember that you will never find the perfect animal, but you will find a loving companion that will be loyal to you for years to come.
When looking for a Rottweiler puppy it is very important to ask questions and you should never be afraid to ask even the most difficult questions. An important question to ask is how many times the mother has had puppies. For Rottweiler's the general rule is that a female should only have three litters in her lifetime in order to have the best breeding results. It is also important that the mother be given adequate time to recover after having a litter before she is bred again. If a female Rottweiler is over bred then there can be some problems with a puppy's health and behavior.

It can be difficult to ask questions but always remember that a good breeder is eager to answer your questions and will be very helpful. The best breeders will often give you all the general facts without you even asking and then allow you to meet the parents to assess their traits. A good breeder is not pushy and wants to help you raise your puppy to be happy and healthy. So don't be afraid to ask any necessary questions including those about the health history of the parents.

Siberian Husky Breeders Ensure Good Breeding

Before you purchase a Siberian Husky puppy, check out the lists of Siberian Husky breeders and interview them, so that you can get some knowledge about the dog breed standards. A good Siberian Husky breeder will not sell his puppy to the first buyer who knocks at his door. He will ask you specific questions. He may want to know why you want a Siberian Husky puppy or he may even ask you to provide information or give veterinary reference for the pets that you already possess.

No organization takes responsibility for the breeders and it is up to the buyer to investigate and choose a breeder when looking for a purebred puppy. A good breeder will give a guarantee for his puppy because he has a commitment to his profession, as his reputation counts. Ask around and inform yourself before you choose a breeder from whom you take a puppy. But you should be able to get the history of the puppy to make sure of its good breeding. Also, breeders are always ready to help you by giving tips and later could even agree to help you train the puppy, so that you can always keep in touch with him.
It is therefore advisable to buy a Siberian Husky from a reputable Siberian Husky breeder and not from a pet shop. Of course the pet shop owners can be breeders too, but their main objective is to make money. Their objective is not to produce additional members for the breed, or making efforts to bring about an improvement in the genetic soundness and temperament of the breed.

A good Siberian Husky breeder often asks the prospective buyer about his knowledge of the Nordic breeds like the Siberian Husky. He makes sure that the owners know that a Siberian Husky is not a guard dog, and that it has a high prey instinct. He would also like to know whether the buyer is familiar with the nature of the Siberian Husky. The pet shops are not interested in knowing anything about the knowledge of the buyer. They don't even care what happens to the buyer and the puppy once it has been sold. On the other hand, some breeders even offer to take back the puppy if the owners have problems with it.
The Siberian Husky breeder has much more knowledge about the dog than a pet shop owner, who is dealing with a variety of pets. After all, the pet shop owner is not a dog breeder; he is buying dogs from the cheapest supplier. Often the parents of the puppies which are supplied to the pet stores have not been screened for any genetic diseases. At the moment there is a list of health problems which are becoming common in Siberians, because the breeders are not taking care to screen their animals before breeding.

Most owners are not very concerned about show quality, working quality or genetically tested dogs. All Siberian Huskies are not show dogs or working dogs. But if you are a genuine lover of purebred dogs, quality will be of importance and the breed will improve if care is taken during breeding. There will be fewer genetic problems and temperament disorders, if you rely on a good dog breeder and just not buy a Siberian Husky off the shelf in a pet shop.

What follows are some ways you can use to determine if you really want to do business with some of the Yorkie breeders you will be talking to.

A breeder that is not listed with a national breeder registry is a breeder that has not committed to a set of tested breeding standards that are designed to help breed the happiest and healthiest dogs possible. If you ask a potential Yorkie breeder if they are listed with a national breeder registry and it turns out that they are not then you are probably going to want to move on to a breeder that is listed.
